A speaking exercise doesn't hear me

Speeku needs permission to use the microphone. On iPhone, open Settings, find the Speeku app in the list and turn on Microphone. On Android, open Settings, then Apps, then the Speeku app, then Permissions, and allow Microphone.

Speeku checks your speech with a speech pack that arrives once, right after you install the app. On iPhone it comes from the App Store, and if it has not arrived by the time your first speaking exercise appears, it downloads then, so that one time needs an internet connection.

You can always skip a speaking exercise with the » button at the top of the screen.

Does it really work offline?

Yes. Lessons, recordings, the dictionary and speech checking all run on your phone, once the speech pack has arrived. You don't need an internet connection to learn.

How do I delete my progress?

In the app, open Settings and, under Your data, tap Reset all data. Speeku asks once more before it deletes every lesson you have finished and every word in My Words. Your progress is not stored anywhere else, so that is all there is to delete.

Can I move my progress to a new phone?

No. There is no account and no cloud copy, so your progress lives only on the phone you learn on. That is the cost of keeping everything on your phone.

Does it grade my accent?

No. A speaking exercise checks which word or phrase you said, not how well you said it. It does not judge an accent.

Which Portuguese does the Portuguese app teach?

The Portuguese of Portugal (European Portuguese), not the Portuguese of Brazil.

Is my voice recorded?

No. Your voice is checked on your phone and then discarded. It is never saved, uploaded or sent to us. The privacy policy has the details.

Where can I get the apps?

Each course has its own page, with its app links as they become available: European Portuguese and Swiss German.
