There are three, they are all first-party, and none of them is set until you say yes. This page names each one and lets you change your mind.
1. Nothing is set until you agree
The first time you open speeku.com a band at the foot of the page asks whether we may count visits. Until you answer it, no analytics code is loaded and no cookie is written. If you press Reject, none ever is. This is the whole of our cookie practice, and the rest of this page is the detail behind it.
2. The three
Two are Google Analytics, which tells us how many people arrive and which pages they read. The third is the answer you gave to the question above, which we have to keep somewhere or we would ask again on every page.
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Holds a randomly generated number that tells one browser apart from another, so a person who reads three pages is counted as one visitor rather than three | 180 days |
| _ga_E3RTWYGJ2P | Google Analytics | Holds the state of the visit itself, so that a visit is counted once and its pages are counted in order | 180 days |
| speeku.consent | This website | Your answer to the cookie question, with the date you gave it, so we do not ask again on the next page. It is browser storage rather than a cookie, it is never sent to us or to anyone else, and it is written whichever way you answer | 180 days |
After 180 days the answer expires and the band asks again, and the two Google cookies are set to expire on the same day rather than the two years Google Analytics uses by default. One number, so that what we ask for and what we keep are the same length.
3. What we do with the analytics
We look at how many people arrive, which of the three course pages they read, and which country the visit came from. That is the whole of it. The reports are aggregate: we cannot tell who you are from them, we do not combine them with anything else, and there is no advertising, no profiling and no tracking of you across other websites. Google Ireland Limited processes that data on our behalf, and it may be transferred to Google servers outside Switzerland and the European Economic Area.
None of this is the app. Speeku on your phone has no analytics of any kind and, on Android, does not even ask for internet permission. Your lessons, your voice and your progress stay on the device. That is the Data policy, and it does not change with anything you choose here.
4. Change your mind
Whatever you answered, you can answer again here, and it takes effect immediately.
5. Blocking them yourself
Every browser can refuse cookies or delete the ones it holds, usually under Settings, then Privacy. Doing that also clears the answer above, so this site will ask you again on your next visit. Google also publishes a browser add-on that turns Google Analytics off on every website at once.
6. What this site does not do
- No advertising cookies, and no advertising.
- No tracking of you across other websites.
- No third-party fonts: the two typefaces are served from this domain.
- No selling or sharing of personal data, because we hold none to sell.
