Five recalls of the same kind is one skill practised five times. So a word comes back differently every time: picked from a picture, tapped in a pair, built out of chips, conjugated across a whole table, and finally said out loud into the microphone.

Speeku turns the word it asked for into the sounds it is made of, listens to what you actually said, and compares the two. On the device, with the radio off. There is no server to send your voice to, because there is no server.

Nineteen thousand entries live on your phone, each with its pronunciation and, where German inflects, the whole table. Search finds a word in the shape you met it in, and it answers with the plane in the air.
Then the table you just read comes back as a drill you have to fill in yourself. Same table twice: once to read, once to earn.

Every word a lesson teaches you turns into a card. Run a deck whenever you have a minute, on the tram or in a queue, and the app deals you the ones you are closest to forgetting first.
You never have to plan a review or build a deck. It is already there, and it already knows which words are slipping.
Private by design
Not “we don’t sell your data.” Speeku cannot send it anywhere. The lessons, the dictionary and the speech checking all run on your phone. That is why it works at 30,000 feet, in a tunnel, and on a mountain with no signal. The Android build does not request internet permission at all, and you can check that in the Play listing before you install.

You do not need to know a word to begin, and you will not run out either: the course is shaped against the vocabulary the Goethe-Institut publishes for its certificates, level by level, so the words you meet are the ones the exam and the street both use. Short lessons, every day, on the train.
Our method
Three new words at a time, and a lesson is not finished with one until you have climbed all four rungs: read it, hear it, say it, and finally recall it with nothing in front of you. Every rung is harder than the last, and the order is not an accident.
