goodbye
Adeus, D. Ana. Boa noite!
Goodbye, Ms. Ana. Good night!Adeus, Zé! Um grande abraço!
Goodbye, Zé! A big hug!Adeus, boa tarde!
Goodbye, have a good afternoon! What people say, and how it sounds.
Adeus is the everyday goodbye in Portugal, to a shopkeeper or a neighbour. Tchau is the quick one between friends.
When you know you will meet again, say when: até logo (later today), até amanhã (tomorrow). The Portuguese like a goodbye that comes with a date.
The stress is on the second syllable, and the final s is the Portuguese sh: a-DEUSH. In até the stress is on the é, and logo has two open o sounds, like the o in lot.
Every line is one the course teaches, with its European Portuguese audio.
